Jones was one of the top hurdlers at the time she entered college. In 2002, at the NCAA Track & Field Championships, she won the 100-meter hurdles. In addition, she was a part of the runner up team for 100-meter relay. Jones took home both the hurdles in the indoor as well as outdoor hurdles at the NCAA Championship in 2003.
